Hi Everyone-

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer and that fun is being had by all!!  I know that we had talked about a get-to-gether at my house on Friday, August 21.....that's this Friday - unfortunately, I have unexpected house guests coming and several personal things that I need to take care of this weekend.  I'm hoping that we can move the date to the next weekend (August 28)......or (to avoid labor day) - go for September 11.  I'm sorry for the short notice, this all just came up last night.

I just looked into the whole Medicare thing recently and it's overwhelming all the parts and supplements and red tape and paperwork.  They certainly have not made it easy and uncomplicated for us seniors.  I don't know about the rest of you all, but at this point in life, it sure would be nice to get - Easy - for a change.

Let me know your thoughts about a party.....and again sorry for having to change the date-

Kate

Kate, don't worry about needing to change the date. I'm sure most of us are flexible enough to adapt. I, personally, don't have a preference. What do the rest of you have to say?

Kate. You can sign up for social security 6 months before you retire. When you do you are automatically signed up for part A and B  medicare. For your part D you can talk with your pharmacy and they can advise you on what plan would be best for you. You can check with AARP to see what kinds of plans are available. If you need more information contact social security they will help you  decide what plan's were right for you.

Born October 17, 1951 in Spanish Fork, Utah to Ralph and Grace Cecelia Koyle Harmer. Married Debra Lynn Del’Andrae June 24, 1972. Survived by Debra, 5 Children (Jason James Harmer, Heidi Harmer Parker, Heather Harmer, Jared Roy Harmer, and Jordan Harmer), 10 Grand Children, Siblings: Russell Harmer, Kay Harmer, Bliss Harmer and Myrna Kamae. Preceded in death by sibling, Shirlene Lowe.

Jim’s first and foremost priority was that of his beloved family. Aside from being the best Father, Grand Father, Husband and Provider, Jim and Debbie were not only lovers but best friends for 46 ½  continuous years and will remain so forever more.

Jim attended different high schools including Springville, McKinley in Honolulu, Jordan, and graduated from Skyline High as well as Stevens Henager Business College. He was an avid Teamster Union Member, worked for Alta Ski Lifts, AJ Dean’s, Forrest’s Concrete Pumping, PIE, CF and Yellow/Roadway Express. He was a friend to everyone and all were touched by his humor and fun loving presence!

Though 63, Jim refused to succumb. He was an admired athlete with a passion for living life to the fullest. He got his rush from “hittin’ one outta the park” with his favorite new bat on any one of four softball teams he currently played on consecutively, “tearin’ it up” at the Huntsman Senior Games, “catchin’ a wave”, successfully accomplishing the steepest and most difficult hill on the slopes, or skillfully making the art of a beautiful slalom run look amazingly easy. Travel included 23 cruises, China, Egypt, Greece, Israel, Italy, Turkey and the Caribbean.

On his most recent extreme Mexico adventure in July, Jim left the “civilized” world behind for a truly exhilarating outdoor excursion. He took exciting speed boat & off- road adventures, hiked through the heart of the tropical forest, learned a variety of wilderness techniques, rode mules and splashed through streams. He rappelled through waterfalls into natural river pools, soared up to 200 feet above the ground over the jungle foliage on a series of thrilling zip lines- some as long as a 1000 ft., finally launching down waterslides.

On to your next adventure, Jim. We love you!

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2015 with viewings on Wednesday, September 9 from 6-8:00 p.m. and also on Thursday one hour prior to the services beginning. All services will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd., Sandy with entombment to follow.

I am finding all of these deaths of friends , family and fellow classmate very unpleasant and upsetting. I guess that is one of the more unpleasant things that being a senior citizen brings.

I see that Jim made a post to the forum the day before he died - it just goes to show you that you never know when its your day. It sounds like Jim lived live with gusto and pretty much checked off most of the things on his bucket list.

Back in the days of our youth Jim was pretty much a wild man. After some of the adventures I had with Jim I never thought he would see 30 years old, let alone 63. But somehow he managed to keep his sense of adventure while taking care of the more important things in life.

Farewell Jim - maybe we can share some new adventures when I see you on the other side.

Jim Harmer's obituary has been added to the "In Memory" page of this website. It's the same one Ken posted, but it will be there for future reference. To answer Tawna's question, Jim's wife, Debbie, only wrote that he died in his sleep, so it must have been a heart attack or a similar type of ailment. I hope everyone else enjoys a safe and healthy Labor Day holiday!

I know what you mean, Cathy.  I am saddened every time I hear of one of our classmates passing. I find myself thinking about my own life and how I am living it.  I think that getting caught up in the service of others really helps cope.  I have so many memories of all of my classmates from high school.  These memories will always be with.  I have one memory of Jimmy, and it was when we were Boy Scouts.  We had hiked to one of the lakes in the Uintah Mountains.  Jimmy was one of the Scouts.  For three days he was quite the wild character, and we were getting rather annoyed with him.  It was on a Wednesday night when he was really on a wild streak.  Finally at about 1:00 am several of us decided to take matters into our own hands.  We went over to his tent, pulled his sleeping bag out, with him still in it, and threw him into the lake.  The rest of the week went very well.  I wonder if he still remembered that....He was a good person to know.  I grew up with him in Mapleton.  We did a lot together as boys in that small town.  A lot of good memories.

I went to the viewing last night, he kept that adventurous spirit Chuck. They had a lot of photos of him doing the "high adventure" activities. He was still playing on 4 softball teams. Debra, his wife, said he went to bed and never woke up. No heart attack etc., that he was in real good health. She said don't finish your bucket list, add to it. She is a very kind person. In his family photos, he was the one having fun. We were blessed to have known him, R.I.P. Jim.
