Well were off to the Caribbean to have lunch with Captain Jack Sparrow on the Black Pearl, since no one here in Utah will eat lunch with me any more.  I will think about all of you at home freezing while we are basking in the 80+ degree weather.

I talked with Kerry Thursday evening and he looked great.  He said he is doing well and is going back to the doctor to see if the cancer has spread or if it is just in one spot.  He told me the cancer he has is slow growing but he would like to come to lunch with us if we have one before he starts his treatment.  I will not be back from the Caribbean until February 24, Hope things are going well with everyone else.

Happy Birthday for all you all who are having birthdays in February.  Love Ya See Ya By Babe!  DS

Denny what has happened to you have you dropped off the face of the earth?

Thanks Daryl, I quess i'll grow my hair out and color it red! What do the rest of you think.  Well my girls took me out for lunch for my birthday. A while later my daughter marci called her son and says is grandma still at Cafe Rio? Nicholas says no she is right here with me. Thank goodness for IPhones she follows my phone. Of course being a year older i had not only left my phone i left my whole purse! But once again I have to say that I am so happy to live where people are honest. Not a thing was missing out of my purse. My love for people was reassured.

TIME"

On his deathbed Alexander the Great summoned his generals and told them his three ultimate wishes:The best doctors should carry his coffin; The wealth he had accumulated (money, gold, precious stones) should be scattered along the way to his burial; andHis hands should be left hanging outside the coffin for all to see.Surprised by these unusual requests, one of his generals asked Alexander to explain. Here is what he said:I want the best doctors to carry my coffin to demonstrate that in the face of death, even the best doctors in the world have no power to heal;I want the road to be covered with my treasure so that everybody sees that the wealth acquired on earth, stays on earth.I want my hands to swing in the wind so that people understand that we come to this world empty-handed and we leave empty-handed after the most precious treasure of all is exhausted - Time.Time is our most precious treasure because it is limited. We can produce more wealth, but we cannot produce more time. When we give someone our time, we actually give a portion of our life that we will never take back. Our time is our life! The best present you can give your family and friends is your time.May we all have the wisdom to give it.

If there is anybody out there, what to you think about inviting any of our old teachers to ride with us on the bus in the parade? We can provide hearing protection.

Dave - I think that would be a great idea, to invite some of our old teachers, are there any of them left to invite? It would certainly be interesting to hear their take on what has happened to the world since our high school days.

I certainly hope to make it to the reunion this year. I realize that there won't be many more - so I had better take advantage of the opportunity at hand.

High school days- seems like a life time ago since that skinny naive kid that I was, graduated from Springville High School. As I look back, I am amazed at not only what a long road it has been, but how quickly it has gone by. There is a lot to be said about being naive - it is a lot less stressful, kind of an ignorance-is-bliss way of living. Unfortunately, it has some significant drawbacks. The world is a complicated place that is getting more complicated every day, a place where the naive become the prey - so it is adapt or die.

Things used to be so much simpler. Remember when nobody locked their front doors at night, or locked their cars? Remember when you could go up Hobble Creek Canyon and pretty much camp where ever you felt like camping? Where is that place with all the cherry and apple orchards, with all the drinking fountains on Main Street that had the coldest, best tasting water around, and the two red animated gum machines outside of Seniors? The Polar King and Brookside Market and Skaggs Drug and Miner's Auto and D-Oil and the High Spot and a thousand other places that made the world we lived in have all gone where everything goes - into the past. We all share a common slice of that past, a part of history that I feel privileged to have witnessed. Things could have turned out better, but it has been a very interesting ride.

Marvin, you have a way with words.  Well said...you said what I have been thinking.  Thanks

I just got back from a two week trip to Cambodia.  We flew into Siem Reap and set up a dental clinic at one of the school out in the country.  Global Dental Relief put the trip together.  They send dentists and volunteers to 3rd world countries all over the world.  We were set up in a large classroom.  There were 5 dentists, 2 hygenists, and 10 other volunteers.  In 6 days of working at the clinic we had 800 children come through to have their teeth examined and worked on.  It was a lot of work, but well worth it.  These kids had next to nothing, and they did not even know it.  I have never seen such happy children.  We who have soooo much can really learn a lesson from this.  I will never forget my experiences with these beautiful children in Siem Reap, Cambodia.  Would I go again?  Absolutely, if given the chance.  I thought I would share a few pictures with you.

Notice their feet.  They all wear sandals, but most of the time they go barefoot.

This is one of their outdoor classrooms.  Notice the hundred plus bicycles in the background.  This is how the chilcren get to class.  Some of them come to school with two or three on a bicycle.  No busses.

The main mode of transportation is the bicycle and the motorcycle.  I happened to look out the window and saw this father and mother coming to pick up their children at the school.  Five people, the whole family, on this motorcycle.  They also use the motorcycle to pull trailors to transport goods.

We were going down the road when we saw this motorcycle pass us.  These are live chickens and ducks on their way to the market.  They keep them alive until it is time to kill them for meat.  That way they are selling fresh meat.  We also saw two large live pigs tied upside down on the back of a motorcycle, on their way tot he market.  It was quite the site.

Great pictures and story, Chuck! I envy you for having done something so generous, and at the same time, such an adventure. Nice going.

Glad to hear you're planning on being here for the reunion, Marvin. We're having another reunion planning session on Thursday, February 27th. We'd like to have it at the Mekong Cafe II (548 South 1750 West, Springville - near Walmart) at 6:00. Everybody is welcome - especially you, Marvindevil

Chuck - It sounds like you had an amazing adventure and a life changing experience all-in-one, while helping out some people that really need it and appreciate it, and that is a rare thing. And besides, now you know first hand how versatile a 90cc motorbike can be in the right hands.

Daryl - Thanks for the invite to planning meeting. I would really like to attend, but unfortunately I will be out of town that day.

I spent last week at the Expo in Salt Lake.  It is the one that our Kate sets up and makes run and is one of the best in the nation.   During the expo on Saturday afternoon I was invited to attend a special meeting at the Energy Solutions arena where former vice President Chaney was in attendance with the Governor.   Now the reason that I bring this up was there were a few people that were talked about who had desire to be successful and were leaders in Utah.  One of those that was talked about was a man who quit his job to start a pizza place in Springville.  The Rusty Nail was a success and this man continued to be a great success not only in Utah but other states.  I learned more about his accomplishments and desires at this meeting.  Mr Rawle was a man who continued to succeed and pushed others to help them succeed.   I just thought it interesting.

Thanks for answering my question Marvin.

Nice photos Chuck. I think the head on the chicken on the left side  might be dead when he made a left turn. We really don't know how good we have it, even though we don't have a Rusty Nail anymore.

You're still the Queen Shauna.

Hi everyone, Chuck your trip looked amazing. My daughter has gone a few humanatarian trips to be with kids who have nothing too. Her comment was that they have bigger smiles than any kid in the U.S. We have trained our kids that things make you happy. I think we are all guilty! 3rd world kids are happy still using their imaginations to have a good time. When I think of the things we did as kids it makes me laugh. Collect snails for pets, use a cow stomach for a trampoline.'gross i know!, OK lets have everyone chime in and tell what weird thing you did as a kid!      Now Kenneth lets really talk about Richard Rawle. Jan, Ray, Breant and i probably knew this guy the best. He came across as this hard ass guy! If you knew Richard you know that ass is a mild word for him.I can't begin to tell you the things that he did for so many people. And he did them until the day he died. When we were at the Nail working he was a struggling guy to start a business and raise a family just like most of us have done. I promise there was one night that we only made 2 pizza's. He was the only person that called Ashley, Puff Gutt to his face. I left out the colorful words that went along with it. He went on and made a Multi-million dollar company! He shared his wealth with so many, but he shared his heart with all of us! As you can all tell he was one of my favorite people. Have any of you ever found a Pizza that was as good as the Nail?? I'm glad they honored him!

My Schedule has changed and it looks like it will work for me to attend.  My last meeting up north is at 3:30 pm and will only run for about an hour.  So I should be able to make the time frame.  Thanks Dennis S

I feel absolutely horrible that I forgot to wish Trish Whiting Walter a happy birthday last Thursday. Especially since she'll be driving in the Phoenix Sprint Cup race this weekend. Good Luck, Trish! Keep driving in that fast lane!

BTW, I'll be at the reunion meeting on Thursday, too.

So fun today... when I took my dad to his Dr. appt. Mr. D was there. He's so amazing with what he's been thru. He told me that he substituted a class last week that had my grandson in it.  He's now taught me, my 3 children, and once in awhile my grandchildren.   Love that man! He's such an example of determination.

Winter at our house.  Picture was taken February 25, 2014.  My wife and I were thinking of putting up our Christmas tree, again.  Have a nice day.

Well Chuck, at least you'll have water next summer as opposed to much of the rest of the west. We're sitting at about 80% of normal for the water year, which is a lot better than Southern California, but not what we need to fill up the reservoirs. Here's a picture of our weather today. Low 60s and clear skies.

Hey, everybody! Don't forget the reunion planning meeting tonight at 6:00 at the Mekong Cafe 2 at 548 S. 1750 W., Springville. It's on the west side of the street leading to Wal-Mart from the first intersection east of the freeway.

Dinner with Captain Jack Sparrow and my lovely wife on valentines day.

The reunion meeting was great last night I just wish more would have come to participate.

Debbie Lawrence (Clark)

well?   you are all saying the reunion meeting went well, so what was decided upon?

I wanted to voice my "demands" (and I always get my own way).

There has to be music.  I don't care if it is a live band or a DJ or a jutebox.

No awful lighting.  Just enough light to fool our eyes into seeing ourselves as not OLD.

And my final request, space to dance.

So....can I have it?

Well, here we go again...more snow.  This picture was taken Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at 5:55 pm.  The temperature is 15 degrees F.  Because of the snow quantity, they evey shut down the Southgate Mall in Missoula.  It sure is going to be a mess when it melts, expecially if it melts really fast.  Anybody want snow?  I will send it your way.  It is supposed to get down to minus 4 degrees F tonight, with a high tomorrow of only 7 degrees above.  I will send the cold also!!

I will say this,  We have had one of the mildest winters I can remember.   I have pushed snow once.  Keep up the good work with the snow Chuck.    I have a daughter and her family who just got a promotion to an area manager and will be moving to Billings Montana.  I am guessing that they have kind of the same weather.  As much as I have tried to shovel rain, I just have not got the hang of it.
