I told that girl I wouldn't kiss and tell. Anyway it was a long time ago.

Different riddle. The answer is a Mountain.

07/12/13 02:05 PM #2313

Daryl Tucker

Okay, someone else needs to tell Dave there are no ears on a mountain.

David Lynn

Don't you know Daryl, it's just me and you?

I know you have heard of Mountain-ears.

I had a great experience over the July 4th extended weekend. Coke's cousin (whom she had not seen in 47 years) from southeastern Ohio came to visit us here in the Great Northwest. To make the visit even more special, Coke's brothers and sister were also able to make it here - it was sort of a mini family reunion.

I could tell that Coke's cousin (David) was a bit a apprehensive when he first arrived, not really knowing what to expect, but I think it turned out to be a vacation memory that he will always cherish. Coke and I like to have visitors, it gives us the opportunity to show off some of the more spectacular features of this area (which gives us a renewed appreciation for those features as well).

Mt. Rainer

Here is a picture with cousin Dave and Linda smiling on the outside, but on the inside they are really wishing they had worn warmer jackets. The picture was taken at the upper lodge of the Crystal Mountain Ski Resort and that is Mt. Rainer in the background. The lodge is at 7000 feet elevation (that is probably why it was only about 50 degrees) and the peak behind them is at 14,410 feet.

Dalles Campground

On the way to Crystal Mountain we stopped and visited one of the few remaining giants (a Douglas Fir) that used to be common in this area. At the top of the picture you can see fire damage from a fire that swept through the area about 300 years ago.

Glas Museum

And of course we had to actually go to Seattle to see some of the other sites like the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum at the Seattle Center (as you can see we disguised ourselves as tourists).

It was really a good time, and a reminder that some of the most important things in life are the relationships we have with family and friends.

Thanks, Carol, you're too kind!

Marvin, another big thanks to you for sharing some more beautiful pics of the great northwest!

I am currently a Scoutmaster for a troop in Darby, Montana.  We recently took a 20 mile backpacking trip up the Tin Cup drainage located west of Darby.  We camped at Kerlee Lake. You can Google the Lake.   I am always in awe at the beauty that are in these mountains, as well as the mountains where you all live and visit.  Here are some pictures that I took to show where we were.....................

This is the Kerlee Lake where we camped..........

This is my Assistant Scoutmaster.  Both he and I each carried 44 pound packs.  Get this, he is 78 years old, and did better on the hike than some of the Scouts.

Trying my hand at fishing.  Caught several and had a tin foil fish dinner.....

That Chiluly is quite the guy Marvin. He has some craftsmen that are remarkable. He was made a National Treasure by Bill Clinton, the only living one. Kinda the same type of guy. And that's all I'm going to say about that. (Forrest Gump)

Those mountains are the ones I was talking about Chuck, that have ears. Beautiful.

Nice pictures Chuck. Looks like good place to commune with the spirits.

Did you catch any grayling? I heard an article on NPR that said there was only one place left in the lower 48 that still has a population of grayling, which was sad because I use to catch them in the Windriver Range. Enjoy those places while you can.

Dave - if you ever get the opporunity you should check out the Chihuly museum (as well as the other glass museums in the Seattle area - and if you do, by all means let me know).

Marvin,

I was on a pack trip up in the Uintas a couple of years ago and met a guy carrying a fly rod on the trail. He had been fishing on one of the little lakes up there and told me he had caught and released 50 grayling that morning.

But, maybe it was just the same one 50 times over. Fish are not noted for their superior intellect. They are always trying to eat fake food, afterall.

I will Marvin. He had a basket show here at BYUs' art gallery and he has a lot of work in Vegas. Seems like a lot of famous artist have to be a bit crazy. Like Tiffany wouldn't hire anyone that was married, other than to his work. Jackson Pollack, well, they didn't call him Jack the dripper for nothing.

Daryl, that's what "My Favorite Martian", Christopher Lloyd said about humans, doing their business in their space suits.

Lunch Thursday then? Happy Birthday July.

What do they call the last three hairs on a dogs tail?

Happy Birthday, Kerry and Daryl.  Hope you have a wonderful day and get all that you deserve.

Hope to see a bunch of you on Thursday at the T-Bone.  Lets make it a great lunch.

Thanks Dennis! Both our birthdays are next week, but today is Ray Lynn Chadwick's, so Happy Birthday to him, too.

So, who's coming to lunch tomorrow with us at T-Bone? We'll start at 11:30, but we'll be there for a bit, so come as soon as you can. Shauna, I know you probably have clients, but see if you can slip down for a few minutes.  Jan and Jill? Carol? How about you, Larry? Where are you hiding, Gary? Eric? Everyone else?

That was a fun lunch guys. The only the ones that were, there got the answer to the riddle. Happy Birthday Daryl and Dennis.

Well, for the past week I have been really a hoppin.....I have had 10 grandkids staying at our house....7 boys and 3 girls.  I have had to be quite creative.  This my son and three of the grandchildren on the "helicopter swing".  So we swing the kids.  Pick raspberries...swing them on the helicopter swing....have each grandchild adopt a tree on the property....make their name on a sign and hang it in their tree....swing them on the helicopter swing....watch a movie....eat 6 bags of popcorn in one sitting....eat popcycles....cook soup and toasted cheese sandwiches outside on the picnic table....swing the kids on the helicopter swing...pick raspberries (more like eating them).....hike a trail in the mountains.....ride the 4-wheeler around the property with most of the grandkids on board.....push the kids on the merry-go-round.....make each of the grandkids a bow and arrow out of willows, and then make targets for them to shoot at, instead of at each other....watch the elk next door......play in the ditch water......swing the kids on the helicopter swing.......go to church......come home from church......swing...you guessed it right.......trim the trees and organize a cleanup detail......supervise the kids as they swept and moped the floors in the house, and vacuum the carpet........take a nap.....swing the kids on the...you guessed it.......teach the kids how to cut and sand wood.......cook pancakes for breakfast.......play on the swing.......stop them from arguing with each other.....wipe away their tears when they fall down.....go to the river and swim......helicopter swing.......go to the river again, by popular demand....teach them how to climb trees.....take a walk......and then do allllllllll of this over again.   Wow, life can be busy.   It has been a great 7 days.  Would I do it over again?   Would not miss it for the world.  I think I need to take a nap.......

Forgot my glasses

Yesterday my daughter again asked why I didn't do something useful with my time. Talking about my "doing something useful" seemed to be her favorite topic of conversation. She was "only thinking of me" and suggested I go down to the senior center and hang out with the guys. I did this and when I got home last night I decided to teach her a lesson about staying out of my business. I told her that I had joined a parachute club.
She said, "Are you nuts? You 're almost 62 years old and you're going to start jumping out of airplanes?" I proudly showed her that I even got a membership card.
She said to me, "Good grief, where are your glasses!

This is a membership to a Prostitute Club, not a Parachute Club."
"I'm in trouble again, and I don't know what to do... I signed up for five jumps a week." I told her. She fainted.
Life as a senior citizen is not getting any easier but sometimes it can be fun.

Why do they but pig pens on the side of the hill in Vermont?

To keep the pigs in.

Where was that parachute club?

Dennis, my answer is because they like their bacon to have more "lean," but Dave's answer is more practical.

Nice post, Chuck. You're a good grandpa.

Happy Pioneer Day!

I like lean Bacon. I think there is a girl with one short leg named Ilean. And an Asian girl named Irene.

Nice helicopter Chuck.

Life has been busy.  Lots of work,  Boy Scout summer camp at Camp Tifie.  Yes that is the camp that the boy got killed the week after we were there.  My wife and I went to Disneyland for the 4th of July.  It was kind of fun.  Now we have our Son and his family living with us while they build a new home.  Also our daughter and her family is up from Texas for two weeks .  It is great but that puts 13 people in our home.  No time for lunch date, or for that matter golf.  Oh yes. we also took all 30 of us to Bearlake last week.  Love your pictures Chuck.  I would love to bring our scout troop up to Montana for a campout.

Busy, but have time for friends and golf. Going to Vegas again this weekend. Third time this month. My bro. in law has been real sick but this week it's his funeral. I don't think I ever heard him say anything bad about anybody. A real good person that makes you better just for knowing him.

Working on Provo, Payson, Indianapolis, Atlanta and Ft. Lauderdale jobs as well as local projects. This is the last of the Ft Lauderdale windows. 4 windows 140 x 66. It's in our contract I can't post photos of them but I never said I wouldn't show the crates. 4000 lbs. I almost had to drive them out there.

I'm trying to buy a cheap school bus for the parade next year if anybody knows where to get one. We'll cut the top off. Shauna, maybe Randy could drive. Between $2,000.00 and $3000.00.

You have too big of back yard Eric, get those grand kids to take care of it so you can join us.

Happy Birthday Warden Sorensen!

Looks like you're getting that first jump in...

Sorry about your brother-in-law, Dave. I have a funeral on Saturday for my brother-in-law, too. Don Eldredge was married to my oldest sister, Kaye. He was from Springville and just managed to hang on for his 50th class reunion this past June. And just to add another name to the list., Mike Bowen's mother's funeral is today. Sincere condolences to all those who've lost loved ones.
