Cathy Parkin Deveraux passed away on November 29, 2021 from heart failure.

Cathy was born July 13, 1951, in Murray, Utah to Ernest and Naomi Parkin. She was the youngest of seven children, and while the older ones became teenagers and adults, her and the younger ones would roam the streets of Mapleton and Springville playing with friends and loved the life they had with their mother. Cathy graduated from Springville High School and went to work in Hawaii for a summer then returned to Mapleton where she started her life as an adult. She successfully raised two sons while working full time and getting her education which led her to a career of service to the public that she loved. Cathy loved Mapleton and the house she grew up in so much that when her mother passed away, she purchased the house so that she could raise her family there. She was completely content in that little 2-bedroom home, raising her two sons and she lived there for her entire life until she moved to South Jordan three years ago to be closer to her eldest son. There never was a happier, grateful, content, more blessed person than Cathy Parkin Deveraux.

Cathy is survived by her children, Elisha Deveraux Baker, John (Kylee) Deveraux, Jason (Clint) Deveraux, 10 precious grandchildren that meant the world to her Ben, Alyssen, Micah, Sage, Jordan, Canyon, Kendra, Jacob, Graydee, Emmalee and Caleb, great grandchild Olyver, sister, Maurine Canto, and sister-in-law Jolene Walker. Cathy left behind so many nieces, nephews, and cousins, many who were more like siblings or children, or grandchildren even if they were once or twice removed, and of course the many, many friends that she considered her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Billy, Johnny, Keith, and Ernie as well as her sister Carol. Her passing has left a huge hole in our hearts that nothing will ever fill.

Cathy was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Though she fought hard to be here for her family during all her health struggles in recent years, we know she is glad to be back to the loving arms of her Savior, her mother, sister, brothers, and so many of her family and friends.

There will be a viewing at the LDS church located at 1580 N. Main, Mapleton, Utah 84664 on Saturday, December 4th at 10:00 AM, followed by funeral services at noon and interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Springville UT.

I'm sad to report that we have lost another member of our class. Our bus has taken its last ride. She was a great lady and benefited from many coats of paint from the creative members of the class of 69. Long shall she live in our memories!

Just got this news from Ken Strong:

Obituary for Betty Jean Jackson

Betty Jean Jackson

1951 – 2022

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, Betty Jean Jackson, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from natural causes. Betty was born August 10, 1951 in Provo, Utah to Bill and Jeanette Jackson. She was the fourth of nine children. Betty was raised in Edgemont and Mapleton with her sisters, Susan, Phyllis, Lois and Mary, and her brothers, Edwin, Bruce, Paul and Robert. She attended school in Springville, graduating from Springville High School in 1969. She also attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah.

Betty married Edwin Case in the Manti Temple and they had one daughter, Brenda Jean Case. Brenda in turn had three sons, Nikolaus, Alexandr and Misha, who blessed Betty’s life as a grandmother.

Betty was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held numerous callings throughout her life. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed wedding gowns for several family members. Betty was known for her fierce devotion to family and overcame numerous physical challenges while raising her daughter and helping to raise her grandsons. Even though her health diminished over the last several years, she continued to provide love, counsel and support for her daughter and grandsons. They have all been members of the Orem Park 4th Ward for years and have enjoyed amazing support from the members and leaders there.

Betty is survived by her daughter: Brenda Jean Case; her three grandsons: Nikolaus Sebastiene Case, Alexandr Khristian Case, and Mihails Benjamin Knudsen; as well as six siblings: Phyllis Diether, Edwin Jackson, Bruce Jackson, Paul Jackson, Robert Jackson and Lois Taysom. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Edwin Case, and two sisters, Susan Loris and Mary Jackson, as well as her parents, William and Jeanette Jackson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 12, 2022 from 10:00-11:00 am at the Orem Utah Park 4th Ward building (50 South 750 West, Orem, Utah 84058) with a graveside service for family immediately afterwards at the Provo City Cemetery (610 S State St, Provo, UT 84606).

Our family is grateful for the love and support we’ve received from family and friends, and for so much love and assistance from the Orem Utah Park 4th Ward. We truly appreciate the exceptional service received from the staff at Applegate Homecare & Hospice, as well as the staff at Lake Ridge Senior Living; and the caring attention by the people at Premier Funeral Services.

Condolences may be shared with the family at bcase0322@icloud.com

I'm sad to report that Elene Simonson Gourley's son, Spencer, passed away this past weekend. Spencer was a talented and accomplished young man and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Part of his obituary and service details are:

Spencer passed away on March 17, 2022 due to the progression of Myotonic Dystrophy which causes the atrophy of muscles and organs. His strength and determination allowed him to accomplish his life’s purpose in spite of the significant challenges presented to him. He is survived by his parents Elene Simonson Gourley and George Carlyle Gourley (Cindy Lampropoulos), Grandmother LaRae Gourley, his siblings: Nicole Gourley Broderick (Michael), George Gourley (Laura Hobbs), Benjamin John Gourley, Taylor Russell Gourley (Sara Bousiali), Jaclyn Gourley Webb (Phil), Natalie Gourley Harper (Sterling), and his dog Jack. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, March 26 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Saturday, March 27 from 9:30 to 10:30 am with the funeral service at 11:00 am at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 85 East 300 South, Provo. Interment will be at the Provo Cemetery.

Here is the link for the complete obituary: https://memorials.walkersanderson.com/spencer-gourley/4882982/index.php?_ga=2.32532094.1363639869.1648047711-2139928013.1648047711

While looking up Spencer's obituary, I discovered that Carol Finley Hall's father, Cal, also passed away a few days ago. He was living in California and there were no details of any services.

I'm sure I speak for us all in conveying our sincerest sympathies to these classmates. May we all put our arms around each other and express our love  and support for one another!
