Wow, this is hard. Denny was truly a big part of our class in so many ways. He made all of our lives better, always positive and  supportive. You had to admire his photography but his own attitude surpassed all of the beautiful nature he captured. He must have had a spiritual connection to it. Peace and love Denny, always. "With your chrome heart shining, in the sun, long may you run. RIP. We're going to miss your presence but will keep you in our thoughts and memories.

It's been a day, now, and it's just sinking in that I won't be seeing Denny tomorrow afternoon at the historical society. He has been a fixture there nearly every Monday afternoon for the past few years and every time we got together he was at the center of some fascinating conversation about life, science, politics or any subject that could get people involved with their opinions and conjectures. He and Floyd Miner could really get into some animated discussions that would keep us all laughing and tossing in our own sidebar comments. Denny and Floyd would always take opposite sides even if they both essentially agreed in principle,  but what fun is there in a good conversation if you can't turn it into a good natured argument? I know that was a formula Denny used with Kenny Hulce, too, and many others. It was never anything at all mean spirited or meant to hurt. Denny could never be anything close to hurtful. He truly and honestly loved everyone and wasn't afraid to say it.  And he made it easy for me to tell him I loved him like a brother. In fact, I think he was the first friend who ever told me that he loved me like that, which was a revolutionary idea among men of our generation who had grown up in a world where men didn't say things like that so openly. It changed my whole way of thinking and it made it easy for me to tell other friends that I loved them without it being awkward in the least.

Denny, I will miss you and your stimulating conversations. I will miss your artistic sensibilities and the beauty you shared with us through your amazing photographs. And I will miss the sound of your voice and especially your laughter. But I will carry your love in my heart and I will always look to your example for the way a true Red Devil lives his life. Rest easy my friend.

Daryl, AMEN to what you have said.  I did not know Denny like you did, but I can imagine the type of person he was, as I read what you posted.  A true example of being selfless...

It is hard to believe that the "Big D" is gone - he was truly an icon of the "Class of 69".

I I've been talking to Dennis's son, Josh, and he'd like to try and have a memorial service next Sunday. It was his wish that we have it outdoors somewhere. The time and place are still being set, but I'll post it here as soon as we know. We'd also like to put together a video/slide type presentation to show at the memorial. If you have a picture we could add to that presentation, please let me know. You can email them to me at tucker.daryl@gmail.com or text or email me at 801-427-9318 and we'll work out how to get them scanned if that is needed. Thanks everyone! I love you all. Just like Denny did...

Denny was a great icon in our lives.  David said it best when he sent me a text and said Denny is Hymn 223 "Have I Done Any Good?"  this song identifies Denny to a tee.  It was ironic that just after he sent me the text we sang that song for the opening of Priesthood meeting this Sunday.  We had many great conversations at lunch and he always shared many great ideas with us.  But we can live through the pictures and thoughts he shared with us over lunch, on our golfing trips and through facebook.  A great man has moved on to better things.  Love ya man!

Has there been - will there be - an obituary for Dennis? I haven't seen anything yet.  Does anyone know just what happened to Denny?  I still haven't completely processed it in my head yet. He was one of those immortal mortals.

Dennis M Robertson, 65, of Springville passed away on Friday, September 9, 2016. He was born to Dennis E and Kathryn Martindale Robertson of Springville on March 9, 1951. He spent his life in Springville and was a proud Red Devil from the Class of 1969.

Dennis would like you to know his work here is done. He received an offer he couldn’t refuse to reunite with the family he has not seen in a long time. He was preceded in death by his sister Jan and is survived by his son, Joshua Lloyd & his wife Whitney whom he loved immeasurably.

Denny was a town icon who taught us that you can create your own family by getting out there and caring for others. His big frame towered over most, yet so elegantly floated down slopes on two skies and through canyons on two wheels. It was astonishing to watch him lead a group of friends down winding roads and he always looked out for everyone. He was more than well-known everywhere he went which spread over the hundreds of miles he often travelled to photograph and appreciate the world around him.

As an undeniable ladies’ man, he never missed the opportunity to compliment a woman’s shoes, especially high heels. His laughter was as addictive as his guacamole and we loved him with all our hearts! His laugh was infectious and we were all victims of the laughing fits it caused.

He was renowned for his wide range of knowledge and expertise. He loved discussing everything from the origin of man to the mysteries of the universe. The love of oratory and debate he cultivated in high school followed him throughout his life and he loved nothing more than tangling with anyone interested in a battle of wits. Legendary for his love of life and good food, he was an accomplished chef and an artist with a camera, having won numerous awards for his photography, which hangs on the walls in many homes and has been shown in the galleries of the Springville Museum of Art.

When thunder rumbles from above, we will forever think of ‘Big D’ riding through the sky reminding us of what he preached so often, ‘Be nice to each other and enjoy the little things in life that we so often take for granted. Spread love and laughter in everything you do.’

On behalf of everyone’s life you touched, Thank You for the impact you had on us.

A celebration of Denny’s wonderful life will be held on Sunday, September 18th at 3:00 pm at the Kiwanis Fireplace at Kelly’s Grove in Hobble Creek Canyon. Please bring your own chairs and beverages. A light lunch will be served. Don’t worry about flowers, Denny’s photographs will suffice. Donations will be applied to an appropriate memorial at a future date.

Hi everyone, It's been a bad week for all of us. I have been heartsick since I got the bad news from Ken on Saturday morning that our friend Dennis had passed on, He was such a great man and he did keep our class together for so long and we will all miss him dearly. My condolences to all his family and friends, and he had many.I don't post messages here very often but I read them every week. I would just like to say that I am sorry that I won't be able to attend the Memorial on Sunday because I will be in the Bookclifs hunting Elk with my friend Lynn Wilson, He is the younger Brother of Dennis Wilson,Our classmate who too has passed on. I regret that I won't be there but we will have a memorial to both of them Sunday on the Mountain, Rest in Peace Denny, Untill we meet again,

It's so hard to find words to express how we feel when we loose our friends, loosing my best friend/husband 2 years ago has given me a whole new view on my life now as I know it.

So sad to say goodbye to Denny, he was so much a part of so many of our lives. I honestly don't remember ever not knowing him, kindergarten or before.  Being one of the Brookside gang, we walked by his house all the time going to Brookside market to get our penny candy and the polar King. So many times we stopped and sat on the porch with Denny, he always had something good and funny to say, we always left with a smile.

I am still trying to find out Where I belong after the other part of my heart is now gone.  Like Denny would say, "Be kind to each other and be grateful for everything we have and everyday we have our loved ones".

Oh David ~ I think we should reveil the stranger in the lunch photo that people were trying to guess...

OK, I'll tell you, it was my friend of 45 years, Randall Jones, he grew up in Heber and lives in Orem, we're just friends......We did have fun wondering if people could guess though.

I'm sorry I will miss the celebration of Dennys life up Hobble creek. I will be there in spirit and hopefully when I come back this winter meet again for lunch with friends. It will never be the same without Denny though........

Love to all

Peace

Thank you Daryl for that beautiful tribute - and the rest of you. It is hard to believe our Denny has left us. As many of your have said - it just won't be the same without him.  Blair was Denny's distant cousin and their moms were in the hospital together when they were born a day or two apart. I went to grade school with Denny and can still see his sweet Mom and how happy she was (just like Denny).  Later when we were little (jv?)  cheerleaders  - we had no clue about football - (what's offense? defence?) and Katherine would sit on the front row at the field behind Park-Ro-She cheering for Denny and telling us what kind cheer we should do. Blair still remembers that he and I and Denny all were in the student driver's ed car together on our first day - and we had fun laughing at each other. Denny always had such a big heart and his legacy is one of Love. He helped us all to be our better angels. He didn't just talk it - he lived it.  We wish we were closer and could be with you all at Kelly's Grove Sunday. I'm sure Denny will be so happy to see his friends gather and share sweet memories. Know we love you guys. Thank you for keeping us close. We send hugs - Cindy and Blair

Dennis Robertson's memorial, yesterday, was a great event! Many of us 69ers were able to be there and I know the rest of you were there in spirit, as I know Denny was too. Of course, there were a few tears shed, but for the greatest part, everyone had a wonderful afternoon remembering the fun times we had together with Denny and each other. Denny's love for everyone was reflected by the outpouring of love on display by everyone who attended. Thanks to you all for the support and good wishes! Here are a few pictures from yesterday taken by Lee Taylor, a good Red Devil from the class of 64 and a great friend.

Happy Birthday Randy. I didn't know they made Les Paul guitars that long ago. Just kidding. I am glad they aren't obsolete like Denny's Head skis or my wood woods.

Great job Daryl at the memorial. I think it was really the way Denny would have liked it.

Hi All,

I always read what you all write but usually don't make comments.  I love all the pictures you post.  Cracks me up!  Happy Birthday to all those turning 65.  Sorry I missed Denny"s memorial on Sunday.  He was such a great guy.  Had so much fun with him in High School.

I know that alot of you live in the Springville/Spanish Fork area.  I am looking for a Handyman to do a few odd jobs in the Salem area.  If any of you know of someone that is reliable,  Please let me know.

Thanks

It's hard to get a good handyman that's not real busy. This one is good, especially plumbing. Scott Harman 801 636 1760. What are you needing?

It's hard to get the forum going after someone leaves us. Akward even. We'd better stick together though and laugh when we can so the crying won't hurt so much later. Stay in touch, love, laugh, and share your life with others. Love you all.

Yes, one of my sons does handyman work and he's booked until Dec. He just turned down a full home siding project. He has been trying to hire someone to join him and no one has even applied, not even someone who he would not have hired. The real kicker is, drive down any road and you see HELP WANTED signs all over. Yet, you see panhandlers on ever corner.
