Shauna Bona (Leetham)

As you all say someone in our class had a big impact on my life! Your right i sat here and thought of each of you. It's kinda fun to think about each person! And yes the one that stands out was the same angel who saved Blair and their guests! She learned it from her Mom, Annie Oakley! Thanks all of you for making my school years fun and happy!! I do regret that I didn't learn more in high school, as far as the books. It is amazing to think of all the great things I learned from you guys. It's been easy dealing with people my whole career! If you can get along with 69er's you have it made!!! Best people in the world!!!! Where is Mrs. Schwartz when you need her!  I think I'd get a D on my writing! At least I write, where are the rest of you! Write and tell how someone impacted your life!!! Love you all, Shauna

I have not posted much on this site in the past, but I have to agree with Shauna you all have helped shaped my life for the better.  I enjoy so much reading the comments posted here.

Just one thouht from the past was our junior prom.  I was on the decorating commitee and some of us traveled to Salt Lake City for decorating ideas.  The only person I can remember that was on the commitee was Kathy Jensen Wheeler.  Wish I could remember the rest of them--so speak up if you remember.  We made tons of flowers for decorations.

Love you all.

I've been influenced by many of you and I always enjoy bumping into classmates and former teachers. On Saturday I had a nice chat with Pam Allan Cherington at Springville Heritage Days and a few days ago I ran into Dan Evans in the line at the Walmart Pharmacy. Mr. Evans was great to talk to and he didn't even mention what a poor math student I was in Jr. High - bless his heart!

It's a great pleasure for me to hang out with Floyd Miner and Denny Robertson every Monday afternoon at the Springville Historical Society where Moroni Miner drops in on occasion. Larry Lowery called me last week and donated a whole filing cabinet full of his dad's photo negatives to the historical society. As we have a chance to go through them, I'll share some that would be interesting for everyone here on the forum.

It's been great the past five years to have gotten reacquainted with Dennis Sorensen, my very best  friend in grade school.  I had a great time at lunch with Dave Lynn last week and we need to get a bunch of us together again soon to do the same. Ken Strong is an inspiration to me of someone who is constantly cheerful despite what I know are some very difficult health issues. Shauna, Eric Bird, Richard Hjorth, Blair and Cindy Packard and so many others of you that I see doing so much good for people really make me want to be a better person. Thanks to you all!

Dee Ann, you can cross me off the list of Junior Prom helpers, but if you ever need to decorate for a dance, again, give me a call!

Good idea Daryl!! since we are senior citizens, maybe we could have a dance down at the memorial hall. We will put DeeAnn and Daryl in charge of decorations!! Think we could get the Saint's together again??How bout that RAndy? You could fly in from Hawaii and play a few tunes!! To bad Pete and Bonnie couldn't be ther to collect money at the door! Can anyone remember how much it was to get in to  those dances??? Who remember's Ron T dancing with pennies?

I liked Jacob Strait doing his dancing too, he would put his foot up on the stage next to me comb his hair back and tell me ready for my show. Those were good times. I don't know if we could get a full group together, I don't talk much with my brother, we never did get along. But it would be fun pulling from the talent in Utah county to put something together. That would be worth a flight back.

A little known fact about Ron Tranchel - in the dead of night coming home from work at the Pioneer Drive-in (with very little traffic on the roads) I would frequently give Ron driving lessons. With one hand on the steering wheel and my left foot near the gas and brakes, I'm not sure it really counted as driving lessons but we had a lot of fun.

The Memorial Hall dances trumped school for me.  I looked forward to the weekends. I usually attended with Larry Murray (class of 70).  He was a guitar player.  We were into the music and would often just watch the band.  I was to self-conscious to dance anyway (maybe a slow song like Time Is On Our Side).  I think Larry may still play with Duane Jensen from our class.  Randy talking about Jacob Strait brought back a memory.  I was watching the band with Larry. Jacob was standing next to us.  He suddenly shot out into the middle of the dance floor and it was on.  Early break dancing moves.  Pretty wild.  He was flying free.  I liked it.  Of course, friends told me if I liked it so much it was my turn next week.  I wished I had the nerve.  Did it later at rock concerts.  Who needed a partner if the music was good.  J.D. Dalton supplied the perfect amount of authority.  It was great.  Loved the MH dances and the Saints.  Good times!

Ah Yes, the Memorial Hall dances - they put River City on the map.

I remember really looking forward to Saturday nights, just so I could go to the dance. If I could round up a couple of bucks (a dollar to get into the dance and another dollar for a small cheese pizza at the Rusty Nail) I was set. I actually danced occasionally, but it was the place to be regardless. I don't think Springville was the ever the same after they stopped having the dances.

At least when they had the dances, the cops knew where all the suspicious characters in town would be. Isn't that right Clint? I think those were some of the greatest times I ever had in Springville.

Ahhh - yes, the Memorial Hall Dances - loved them!  Clint, Time is on my side, is still one of my all time favorite songs and brings back the memory of the MH dances everytime I hear it.  We grew up in such a simple time and I love it!

I just re-newed the springville69.com domain for another (2) years, so let's keep communicating!  Seems I have more free time these days, so I'll see if I can't spruce up this website a little.......any help or suggestions are welcome.

Are we up for getting together for luch or dinner soon?  Things are a little too quiet for me and I would love to see my friends!

Have a good weekend everyone!!

Kate

Marv, you calling me suspicious?  It's true.  The suspicious characters in attendance at the MH dances were contained and happy.  A brilliant win win situation for kids, cops, and parents.  I think the legal curfew started shortly after the end of the dance.  Good semi-clean fun.  Post "Leave It To Beaver", but pretty innocent nonetheless.

I meant to post a big Happy Birthday to Linda Schardine yesterday! Sorry I'm a day late, but wanted you to know I'm thinking about you and hope you're well and finding some joy in life!

Linda Schardine

Thank you for all the birthday wishes and kind thoughts.

I think I'm finally back, I am doing good and moving forward. I had so much stuff to do to sell my husbands business and at the same time work on things inside and out that needed to be done. My therapy is being super productive and creative. My family and friends have been a big support.....

This picture was at an old cemetary in the 70's fitting for Halloween.....

I think Debbie and I are going to a costume party the 18th, our friends birthday. I think we'll probley go as hippies since we were so excited to be on the bus as hippies with all of you and couldn't do it then...I'll send some pictures (if their good)....

peace and love to you all!!

Great picture, Linda! Looks like an album cover for Led Zeppelin or The Grateful Dead. Classic!

Hey Dennis Robertson, how about sharing some of your award winning pics here on the forum? You've made some great ones!

It is a great picture.  I was thinking a Black Sabbath album cover.  You and Debbie better listen to "Fairies Wear Boots" (Paranoid album) to get you in the mood for the Halloween party.  Sinister?  They out did themselves with the lyrics to that song.  A good laugh helps heal the soul.  The song rocks and the lyrics always gave me a laugh.  I'm glad you're feeling better.

Had a great day yesterday.  Mike Nielson and I met up and tackled Strawberry Yesterday.  Though we never did anything in High School or after together we sat in the boat and had a great visit and got to know each other and things that have happened in our lifes.  What a special treat it was to get to know a classmate better.  We spent a great day on the water and even managed to catch a few fish.  Thanks Mike for getting aquainted and for a great day.

Absolutely gorgeous photos, Dennis my friend! Thanks for sharing them with us.

You know, that perfect rose will now stay perfect througout all time because you captured it at the peak of its glory. Those blueberries will always bring a delicious flavor to my mind, too. Magnificent!

Those are great Dennis!  I am learning to use my husbands camera, it has everything and I don't know to much. My son Zak showed me a little when he was here this summer but right now I just need to find the batterie charger and learn more than auto. Wow Denny your pictures are just fab!! no words for it.......

Hi . I just figured out why I haven't been getting the news in my in box.  I guess I had a notification bounce back from my email account. I've been too busy to delete delete delete.  But I think I'm back on the horse now.

First, Linda Happy Birthday.  I'm so glad to hear you're feeling better.  I love the picture.  You are looking very "Doors" album cover to me.  Probably the gate to the Paris cemetery where Jim Morrison is buried.  Your hair is looking pretty Morrisony.  I love the curl on your chin.

Congratulations Denny, you have such an excellent eye for composition and color.  It's great more people get to see your photos.

Merrill Carter was a big influence on me.  I was rather shy.  It wasn't easy to express myself in those days. I think I heard that he's still kickin'. I hope so.  I need to follow Doug's advice and let him know that exploring characters in a play helped me find myself.  Let me know if you have clues as to where he is.

I'm gong to give more thought to the important influence idea.

Dusty,

Merrill Ray Carter is still with us and lives in Spanish Fork. He was one of the great influences in my life, too. I haven't seen him, lately, but the last time I did see him (a couple of years ago) he was going strong. He was pretty young when he was teaching us back in the day, so I think he's in his mid-seventies now.

I don't have his email address, but I'll try and get his home address for you if you want to drop him a line.

It's interesting that you mention Denny's eye for color, because I am always struck by his black and white images. Just like I have always loved the photographs of Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange and many other early photographers who worked in that same medium, I find myself discovering amazing details when I'm not distracted by all the color. If that rose had been rendered in color, I might not have noticed the wonderful texture of the petals reflected in the mirror. Sometimes we need to strip away the distractions to see the details that give something its true substance and meaning. Anybody else feel like that? Or, am I standing alone out here on Crazy Island?

Dusty Collings

Thanks Daryl, with the town I was able to get an address.  I will send him a letter (old School).

On the issue of color, I have a very dear friend who made prints at Grad School using white paper and black ink. She would say, do you see the color? It's more intense than if I used color.  Each image and idea has it's "best expression."

A few of us got together for a late season golf outing at the Old Mill in Salt Lake last Tuesday. Perfect weather! I had to cut out after 9 holes, but Dave, Dennis, Richard, Eric and Paul got in the whole 18. Great day! Thanks for the picture Dennis.
