Kenny and I ran into Rick Patten at the gas station a few days ago, and much later, were on our way. There's always something really fun about running into a fellow class of 69er.

Good one Daryl!  Nice to open up the work day with a good laugh.  I've always been a little neurotic (maybe a lot).

Really Clint didn't you ever come up to my house and feed my lamb Blue! She was such a nice little lamb!  Maybe if you were hanging with those crazy guys, I may not want to know why your afraid of sheep!!!!!!!  I don't get in the ocean because of sharks either!! Hate spiders, like snakes! does anyone else want to tell their fears??? If Mrs. Schwartz read these sentences she would kill me!! And yes Clint I think your afraid of boogers lurking under desks!!!!

I didn't get a chance to meet Blue.  What happened to Blue?  Did you eat Blue?  Please don't say you ate Blue.  The booger stretching incident is searted into my memory.  I couldn't stop laughing.  Mrs. Schwartz was a very nice person.  After being sent out of the room, I kept laughing in the hallway.  She came out and told me that I could come back in if I stopped laughing.  She asked me what was so funny anyway. I couldn't tell her. I started laughing again.  I aplogized and told her that I should got to the office.  I think we need to take a hard look at the booger stretcher on this one.  It isn't everyone that can handle a booger the way you did.  It was either puke or laugh for me. A classic!   I've never forgotten that one.

My story of Blue is a sad ending! He always met me at the driveway by the ditch when I got home from school! I got home and went to go in my back door and I looked up and there was Blue's hide! I never forgave my Dad for that one. I told him I'd chew the meat up and spit it in his face! I think that was our only big fight. But I don't know why it surprised me, I was raised on a farm I still hate lamb and I don't eat it. Randy wasn't sad about Blue either because he was full of cock-a-burs and he would scratch against his nice car!!!   The Booger story was hysterical, I don't think I have ever laughed that hard in my whole life!! I guess I was just better at hiding it than you Clint!!

What an interesting night. Had the oportunity to sit down with Waddie Mitchell and his wife and visit. Also with Trinity Seely who quickly became friends with my wife A great evening spent..

So Ken, what's the backstory here? How did it happen that you just happened to sit down with a famous cowboy poet and country singing star? Did they just wander into your living room, or was there some other part of the story you failed to mention? Out of curiosity did Waddie end all his sentences in rhyming couplets? Must have been a great time.

Daryl, I went down to my town home in Kanab to take in Western Legend Days. That is were the actors and actresses come back each year that made movies down there and have a good time with the people. They are dying off now and some are getting really old. I was on the sidewalk and ran into Dan Haggerty (Grizzly Adams) and James Drury of the Virginian. We ran into others in places. Waddie Mitchell was doing a show and Trinity Seely ( western entertainer of the year 2012) was opening act. We were invited back stage to meet them. For some reason we were the only people that were back stage. We had a half hour to visit and it was lots of fun. Wouldn't you know that Waddie Mitchell is into hunting so it made for a great conversation. One thing about Kanab, they really know how to celebrate. If it is 4 of July or something else, they do it up right.

They probably invited you back stage because they thought you were one of them. Maybe Fetus. You get around Ken, good on you.

Great story, Ken!

Kanab has a really interesting film history and now you have become an insider. Way to go!

Some people have the attitude that you cannot win so why try. Well without trying you will never win.. I have found that if I try to get things done things happen.  That's why I decided to try to change some laws in hunting and fishing in the state of Utah. It took me eight years to get where i am now but now I can see things happening. Only because I took the attitude that things can't get done if unless you try.  I am a firm believer that if we try hard enough we can accomplish just about anything. I also have a great time meeting people and in some ways being forceful in what I do.  Just remember people life is about you so go after what you want.  Life is too short not to do the things that you want to do.

Good work Ken, keep us on the inside scoop!! Wow those actors look a little old. What does that tell us!! Ken i think you should have a class party down in Kanab!!! I loved working at the Best Friends Sanctuary! We could all go volunteer for a day!

Kate, you did do Comic Con. Were you Wonder Woman?

Hi Everyone - it took quite some reading to catch up on all that has been posted in the last couple of months.  So great that you are all keeping in touch.  I had such a great time at the reunion - then dropped out of sight again.  It's been a really rough couple of months, but I think I'm coming out on the "silver lining" side - hopefully.  Single for good this time and adjusting to having to figure out how to mow the lawn and change the batteries in the smoke detectors.  It's a process, but I'm ready to start a new chapter.  It's just scary at this age and overwhelming sometimes.  So if anyone out there wants to do a movie night, I'm in!!

I just finished Comic Con and it almost killed me, litterally!  I started out thinking I could take it on, no problem, I'm a seasoned professional - right?!  There is nothing in the entire world that can prepare you for that - craziest thing I've ever done or seen.  It's going to take me a while to get over it, not only the physical work of it all......but, really, some things just can't be unseen!!  Ha!

I'll keep in touch more I promise - keep posting........reading and catching up makes me happy!

Life is Good!!  Love to all!

Kate

Well done, Kate! I work with a bunch of nerds and a good number of them went to Comic Con last week and came back with glowing praise for the experience. I had my friend Dustin share this picture with me...

They thought it was the coolest thing ever!

Also, for those of you who may not have heard, Loren Phillips, the SHS ag teacher passed away last week. Sad to see the old crew pass. I see Richard Drollinger pretty regularly and Merrill Ray Carter is still going strong. And not meaning any disrespect, but do you suppose Mr. Phillips is now in Hog Heaven? Here's a link to the obituary if you're interested:

Kudos Kate!  I've lived in SLC since the early 70's.  Comic Con is the craziest spectacle that I've seen in my years.  Friends talked me into heading downtown. I guess it was a good idea.  It was a trip (good old 60's saying).  Got a minor buzz at our favorite bar.  Enough of a buzz that I had the nerve to ask people who they were.  That simple question opened up long in-depth answers.  People loved to inform the uninformed.  I called it educating grandpa.  I found out that my son had failed in my video game education (I'm a bad student when it comes to video games).  While it was unique fun, it was nice to leave.  I thinks it's fair to say that Utah has an inordinate amount of nerdy role playing types.  It's not a bad thing to be a techy these days.  The dress up comes from a little different angle.  We all have our own angles.

Sorry to hear about Mr. Phillips - I probably had more classes from him than any other teacher in my entire life. I’m sure I was a pretty discourteous student, but being the FFA vice president and on several of the judging teams, Loren managed to teach me a lot of things that have been very useful to me in my life. I thank him for that, and I regret not having told him to his face.

Cindy and Blair, Elder Nelson told his story today in Stake Conference about being almost shot but an angel protected them and the gun misfired. It was the short version and they didn't mention Africa or you but I knew. You'll have to post the whole story correctly.

David, thanks for letting me know about Elder Nelson's story in your stake conference. As far as I've known he hasn't previously shared the events of that evening in Mozambique 5 years ago in public. A few others mentioned that they had seen the old KSL story floating around the web yesterday - probably as a result of his telling the story. I don't remember any attempted shooting and a gun misfiring although there were guns pointed at all of us. That could be another story or situation to which he was referring. The GAs travel a lot and to many areas of the world. The only angel we all saw had blonde hair and was named Cindy who, on her second attempt, escaped and summoned help. Elder Nelson was certainly the calmest of everyone in the room that evening (at 85, and now 90).

Just saw Loren Phillips Obituary. Darn it anyway.  So many times over the last few years I thought to contact him and just tell him what a significant impact he had on my High School years in teh FFA and Vo Ag. Just another reminder to follow through with impressions to make those contacts and let those who have touchedour livesknowthat they did.  Loren was tough as a teacher, but oh how he loved his work and expected his studenets to be serious and responsible.  I think that his influence in teh various judging and Parlementary Procedure teams I participated in had a truly profound impact on my life, choices and success in speaking and training in my careers.

I wish I wouod have had him up to Scofield to fish a little and reflect alot. LEts see, who ese has been coming to mind of late that need to hear how they contributed to my life... Perhaps it was you...

you are right Doug. We need to be more aware of the people who have made changes or affected our lives. We are now pushing 30 class members who have passed on that we are aware of and there may be more. I think every member of our class had some kind of impact in my life. we have a very diverse group of classmates and there isn't one that has not affected my life. Same with all the teachers that I had while growing up.

As you all say someone in our class had a big impact on my life! Your right i sat here and thought of each of you. It's kinda fun to think about each person! And yes the one that stands out was the same angel who saved Blair and their guests! She learned it from her Mom, Annie Oakley! Thanks all of you for making my school years fun and happy!! I do regret that I didn't learn more in high school, as far as the books. It is amazing to think of all the great things I learned from you guys. It's been easy dealing with people my whole career! If you can get along with 69er's you have it made!!! Best people in the world!!!! Where is Mrs. Schwartz when you need her!  I think I'd get a D on my writing! At least I write, where are the rest of you! Write and tell how someone impacted your life!!! Love you all, Shauna

Dee Ann Tippetts (Kempinger)

I have not posted much on this site in the past, but I have to agree with Shauna you all have helped shaped my life for the better.  I enjoy so much reading the comments posted here.

Just one thouht from the past was our junior prom.  I was on the decorating commitee and some of us traveled to Salt Lake City for decorating ideas.  The only person I can remember that was on the commitee was Kathy Jensen Wheeler.  Wish I could remember the rest of them--so speak up if you remember.  We made tons of flowers for decorations.

Love you all.

I've been influenced by many of you and I always enjoy bumping into classmates and former teachers. On Saturday I had a nice chat with Pam Allan Cherington at Springville Heritage Days and a few days ago I ran into Dan Evans in the line at the Walmart Pharmacy. Mr. Evans was great to talk to and he didn't even mention what a poor math student I was in Jr. High - bless his heart!

It's a great pleasure for me to hang out with Floyd Miner and Denny Robertson every Monday afternoon at the Springville Historical Society where Moroni Miner drops in on occasion. Larry Lowery called me last week and donated a whole filing cabinet full of his dad's photo negatives to the historical society. As we have a chance to go through them, I'll share some that would be interesting for everyone here on the forum.

It's been great the past five years to have gotten reacquainted with Dennis Sorensen, my very best  friend in grade school.  I had a great time at lunch with Dave Lynn last week and we need to get a bunch of us together again soon to do the same. Ken Strong is an inspiration to me of someone who is constantly cheerful despite what I know are some very difficult health issues. Shauna, Eric Bird, Richard Hjorth, Blair and Cindy Packard and so many others of you that I see doing so much good for people really make me want to be a better person. Thanks to you all!

Dee Ann, you can cross me off the list of Junior Prom helpers, but if you ever need to decorate for a dance, again, give me a call!

Can anyone remember how much it was to get in to  those dances??? Who remember's Ron T dancing with pennies?
