I think we did ours by the creek. Or was that a fishing pole?

May Day was a big deal at Lincoln, too, and besides the May Pole, we did some square dancing. Susan Hardy was my partner in fifth or sixth grade and I was pretty hyped about that. Field Day was also a big deal in May and somehow I won the basketball toss which remains the only honor I ever achieved in sports.

It has been suggested that it's time for another golf day for anyone who'd like to join us. We're thinking about Hobble Creek next Thursday, the 3rd of May. Who wants to go, so I know how many tee times to schedule?

It is good to see some activity on the message forum reminiscing about the simpler days of our youth - its has all gone by so quickly.

I will be in the Springville area May 31 thru June 2nd. I am hoping to that we can get together for a luncheon or dinner on one of those days to discuss the 50th class reunion - we are down to one year so we need a plan.

Also along those lines, does anyone have any contact information for any of these classmates?

Marvin, we'll put together an organizing meeting when you are here next month. We might have some updated address information at that time. Thanks for keeping on top of the reunion planning.

As a side note: I was informed today of funerals for two mothers of two classmates that are happening today. Our sympathies and condolences go out to Scott Strong and Rick Van Ausdal and their families.

I don't add much to the message forum, but I do read all the posts. I'm willing to help on the 50th class reunion if needed. Yes, the days of youth are fading with time. I try to remember them from time to time but, each time there are fewer details. None the less, each time I read a post here, it's like stepping back in time. Thanks to you all for posting both past memories and present time activities.

Here is my what's happing now contribution. Last June I took the big step and retired. At that time I was a little insecure about the outcome, more fear of the unknown.  But now that I'm coming up on my one year of retirement, I can say without fear it's great. I can't fully give up programming so I'm doing some coding for the U.S.C.G on the side as a volunteer.

Here is my I remember contribution. I have a grandson who will be going to SHS next year. We were talking about the high school, I was telling him about the condition of the building the first year. I told him about the floor rolling up behind you as you walked down the hall. What a fun time we had walking around the old building.

OK, this will fulfill my text quote for now. Now let's all have a fun and safe summer.

It's funny you called it the "old building" Mart. Someone asked me where I went to high school and when I told them Springville they said "Oh, that old school up on the east side of Springville."  I responded by saying " no it was brand new." Then I thought, it is about 48 years old. What's that make us?

It's still hard to be called "Sir."

So, the "Old" high school we went to was built in 1909 and we were the last sophomore class to go there in 1967 which made it 58 years old at the time. The "New" high school opened that fall, and so it was 50 years old last year. Nebo School district has some plans for adding on and fixing up our "New" high school over the next couple of years and by then it will be nearly as old as our "Old" building that was torn down about 10 years after we left it. Where has the time gone!

Joyce Bartholemew's mom was in my old ward in Georgia. The mom lives with Joyce's niece. We moved two years ago, but the last I heard Joyce was living in Mexico. But even that info about Joyce is over 5-6 years old--or more. Our old bishop is her brother-in-law and I can get current info on her whereabouts. (It's weird how, even in this day and age, we can lose track of people).

P.S. To Chuck Gividen: That is an amazing picture. I forgot about the little picket fences.

Yes, it was new when we moved in. The old high school was something. I found some old photos online. See what memories this stir up.

Hey everyone! We're postponing the golf outing for a week! We are now planning on Thursday, May 10th at Hobblecreek. Let us know if you can make it.

By the way, Mart, I think that picture you put up of the high school might be a picture G. E. Anderson took of the old school in American Fork. I have this picture of Springville High taken in 1909 which you'll notice isn't as big a building. The interiors are definitely of our old school, though. Great job!

And here's a picture that is more representative of what the campus looked like when we were sophomores...

My grandkids play basketball in that "Devils" gym. They are hard seats. I can't beleive someone didn't get pushed off, there is no room for feet or passing.

I forgot to mention Stuart Hamilton's birthday, yesterday. Happy 67th! I hear there's some musical playing in Salt Lake about you. Apparently, it's a pretty big deal!

And Happy Birthday today to Floyd Miner!

Okay, new golf plan! We ran into a few more scheduling conflicts, but we've finally settled on next Tuesday, May 8th at Spanish Oaks Golf Course. Let me know if you are able to make it!

What time of day? I'd love to play but I don't play good if I have to get up early in the morning

Sorry Roger, but the tee times are 8:16 and 8:24.  You might have to get up early, but don't worry about the level of play. I only play the game for fun and the chance to see some of the old classmates I don't get to see that often. Try to make it. So far, about 6 of us are committed and we've got 2 foursomes scheduled.

Hello Everyone.

It was enjoyable looking at the Grant grade school picture that was posted a while ago.  So, thanks to my good mother for keeping a scrap book for me, and knowing that there are others out there who would like to see some pictures of old stomping grounds I dug around and found the book.  Hope you all enjoy them.

Rick
