Daryl Tucker

I'm sad to report that we have received word of two more members of our class who have passed away.

Vicki Vincent, who has been living and teaching high school in Rock Springs, Wyoming passed away on the 19th and Shirl Peterson, who has lived in Kona, Hawaii for many years passed away this past Monday.

I don't have many details to share regarding Vicki, but according to Shirl's sister-in-law, he has been dealing with respiratory problems for a while and the recent volcanic activity near his home made things more difficult for him, eventually leading to severe pneumonia and ultimately his death.

This brings the total number of our class to have passed to 41. We send our deepest condolences to the members of these two families.

More sad news, Daryl.  Thank you for keeping us informed. My deepest condolences to these families.

For the  rest of us ... the beat goes on.  With each day that we make it through, hopefully our minds are gaining wisdom and knowledge ...even through the aches and pains that our bodies feel.  Caution!, don't put yourself next to a youngster if you want to feel technically smart.... that's not a good feeling (unless you're Mart Gardner :) )!!

Obituary for Victoria "Vicki" Ann Vincent

Victoria Ann Vincent

Rock Springs - Victoria Ann Vincent, 67, of Rock Springs passed away peacefully, surrounded by family members at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT, in the evening of June 19, 2018.
She was born April 23,1951 in Payson, UT, to Willard Leon and Theresa Norma Roy Vincent. She is survived by her brothers, Dan (Melissa), Jeff (Claudia), and Richard (Joanne), her sister-in-law Janice (Mike), and many nieces and nephews and their children.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Valerie Ann, her mother, Theresa, her brothers James Leon and Michael Floyd, and her father Leon.
Vicki was the first of her siblings to graduate from college, receiving a Bachelor’s degree from BYU and a Master’s degree from New York University in English Literature. She taught for a few years in Ottawa, Ohio, then settled in Rock Springs, Wyoming, where she taught English and French to two generations of students. She spent many summers organizing and conducting education tours to Europe, where she led her students by example, speaking fluent French. She was honored with a Robert Frost fellowship, and in Washington, D.C. by our nation for her work as a teacher.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was a tireless advocate for the downtrodden. She was active in the arts in Rock Springs, and taught many students to play the piano. Like her mother, she was known as an excellent cook, and many local families benefitted from her culinary talents - she was often the first on the scene with a meal to a family in need.
She was beloved by the community and those who came to know her through her service to other cities. Among other things, she will be remembered for her compassion, her wit, her ability to connect with students and others, and her love of her beloved canine companions.

Thanks, but if you're talking games, I will stand with you.

Now that I'm retired, one year, technology is passing as if I were standing on the side of the freeway.

The passing of two more, just makes me fell the loss as I scan through the old year books and find what's written on the pages in there hand. 😿😿

Sad to hear of more losses in our class!! We could have had another fatality because of my latest fall!.. I know everyone is sad, so I"ll give you a good laugh.  Jill and I went to see one of my clients in the hospital. As you know I have a broken foot already. Well as we were leaving going down the hall. Two nurses and a doctor came around the corner. I'm on a knee scooter to get around. Some how I hit the fire alarm box that sticks out of the wall with the handle bar on the scooter. Jill said it was like I was in slow motion flying through the air. If your going to make a fool of yourself and fall it might as well be in front of the medical staff. So everyone is helping me!!! The nurse calls for help to report the accident. Of course the guy doesn't understand what she is trying to tell him. Really a lady was coming down the hall on a scooter and fell! He says I'll be down. He shows up, the Dr. helps me up and then Jill helps take down all the information. Now they put me in a wheel chair and take me to get X-rayed to see if my foot is worse. Well I couldn't tell what hurt worse my knee, elbow, foot or pride! Jill and I are sitting in the waiting room and we get the uncontrolable giggle's on what had happened. The new Dr. walks in and he is onry as hell. They sent me for more X-Rays and guess what the same bone is still broke, but nothing new, yeah!!! The Dr. was nice when he got back, probably becausse someone told him I could sue the hospital. They wheeled me out to my car and we were about to take off when the nurse come running at us carrying my purse and phone that we had forgotten!!!!! When i woke up this morning I thought I'd broke everything in my body!! Never fear I got up and worked and then I felt better!  Oh wait one more thing! As we were riding home I said to Jill, What is with this black cloud I'm under!! She looked up in the sky!! Then she got it and we laughed all the rest of the way home!!! Moral to the story, we may fall, but we get up! We may forget, but we remember!!! Tell your friends and classmates you love them, because there may not be a tomorrow!  And my favorite saying" Laugh until your tears run down your legs!" Love you all!

Yeah, Dave, I'll bet that stuff is about 90 proof!

Oh, and Shauna, at our age those might not be tears running down your leg when you laugh. Sorry about your mishap, though! Be careful!

Happy belated Birthday to Brent Hall (29th) and a Happy Birthday today to Marvin Dansie and tomorrow to Kathie Peay Taylor!

Daryl and Shauna - Thanks for the birthday wishes. They must have helped because I did a nice birthday.

Even though I just celebrated another birthday I am still in denial. The mental image I have of myself is still closer to photo in the '69 yearbook than the stranger I see in the mirror every morning. I just don't relate to the idea that I am that old. Sure, I am slowing down a bit. My hair, eyesight, hearing and memory are far less than they use to be and something is usually hurting when I get up every morning, but I can't believe I am now in my late 60's. It has all happened so quickly.

Shauna - I hope you don't have anymore accidents on your scooter. Now that you have been driving it around for a month I am sure you are very tired of it, but you should betting better at getting around on it. Hopefully the next month will go by quickly without any other mishaps. Your a tough gal and I admire your strength and humor in dealing with your accident. Best of luck in the future.
