Obituary for Mary Alice Roylance
Mary Alice Davis Roylance of Springville, UT, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family on September 14, 2017. She was 67 years old.
Mary is survived by her husband, Rod Roylance; her children, Michelle Fullerton, Jenifer Spencer (Corey), Sarah Rose Broderick (Justin), and Jessica Harris; her thirteen grandchildren, Brandy Fullerton, Shante Fullerton, Tyler Spencer, Sage Spencer, Cora Roylance, Brooke Spencer, Van Spencer, Aivery Spencer, Fatima Touré, Rodney (“Boo-Boo”) Touré, Keenan Touré, Austin (“Booger”) Broderick, Jack Harris. She is also survived by her sisters, DyAnn Smoot (Lee) and Rita Shipp Sanderson Riling. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Vernon and Ruby Williams Davis; and her siblings, Emma Lou Davis Swensen and Clarence Vernon, Jr.
Mary Alice was born on December 19, 1949, in Provo, UT, to Clarence Vernon and Ruby Davis. A physically active child, Mary played most sports throughout her youth; particularly, she played city and church softball where she was a power hitter and excellent catcher.
Mary Alice was educated in Provo, attending Wasatch Elementary, Farrer Junior High and graduating from Provo High School in 1968. Mary entered Brigham Young University (BYU) that fall on a scholarship she earned through an Ensign competition in written and visual arts. She graduated in 1972 with her Bachelor’s of Science Degree with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Art. She was a talented artist and writer.
Fresh from college, she began teaching — first at Sage Creek Elementary in Springville, UT, then transferring to Goshen Elementary in Goshen, UT,. Mary eventually began her career in the automotive industry at Pages, Inc., in Spanish Fork, UT, where she worked as the Service Operations Manager and would ultimately meet her sweetheart and eternal partner, Rodney Bruce Roylance. Mary and Rod were married on September 22, 1979, in Las Vegas, NV.
In 1981, Mary and Rod welcomed their first daughter, Jenifer. Their second daughter, Sarah Rose was born in 1982. In 1985, Mary and Rod completed their family with the birth of their third daughter, Jessica. Mary loved spending time with her sweetheart and their children; her favorite past-times were coaching her daughters in various sports, camping, hunting and fishing.
On March 26, 1994, Mary and Rod, along with their children, were sealed together as a family for time and all eternity in the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Mary filled her home with her sketches, beautiful quilts, cross-stitching and crafting. Friend to many, Mary had an inviting personality and infectious laugh. Her joy for life radiated to all around her. Mary’s close friends knew she considered them to be part of her family. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she served in teaching and leadership roles in Primary, Young Women and Relief Society. Mary Alice has a devout testimony of the Restored Gospel, God the Eternal Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. Mary was a pillar of strength to her family and to all who knew her. She followed the teachings of the Savior, living a life of service to family, friends and those within and surrounding her community.
A viewing is scheduled from 9:30-10:45am, with her funeral following at 11:00am in the LDS Hobble Creek 12th Ward building on Monday, September 25, 2017, located at 950 South 1700 East, Springville, UT. Bishop Nile W. Hatch will conduct the services. All are welcome to attend this celebration of the life of our wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
The family would like to thank Encompass Home Health & Hospice, Nancy Trapnell (RN), and Stacie Memmott, for the amazing care and dedication provided to Mary during her final days on this earth.
