Richard Hjorth will be at T-Bone tomorrow night for our get-together. He has 5 of the 50th reunion yearbooks left and 4 of the crystal cubes. He'll bring them with him for anyone who didn't get one the night of the reunion. If you know someone who didn't get one and you can get it to them, pick one up from Richard.

See you all tomorrow night at 6.

I'll bee there.

Why do bees humm? Because they forgot the words.

Hey Dave,

You're Un-BEE-lievably funny...good one!

My girls (aka my back-yard bee colony) tell me that if they don’t stop eating, they will eventually become a little chub-bee.

Fun dinner.

Why did the queen bee kick out all of the other bees? Because they kept droning on and on.

Keep em coming, Dave!

I meant to post this picture a few days ago.  It was taken at the T-Bone last Thursday night. It's the largest group of people we've had together since the reunion last year. It was a lot of fun and we need to do another one soon!

What animal do you look like when when you get into the bath?

A little bear.

Hi All,

Haven't checked in for awhile.  U of U on telework which frankly means I'm not doing a whole lot. Sort of going crazy and it's only been three days.  Since we're in the extreme lockdown demograghic, thought it's a good time to check in with class of 69.  Might have some useful tips on how to combat cabin fever.  The earthquake broke up the tedium.  A little to much.  Stood in my kitchen like a statue.  Didn't follow any of the guidelines.  Good looking dinner bunch.  Perfect scheduling.  Hope everyone doing well.  Strange days.  Funny, I still find myself using 60's jargon without thinking.  Strange days a Doors song.  I was discussing the present situation with a friend earlier in the week and said something like sitting around in my four cornered room.  Realized later that Four Cornered Room is the title of an old War song.  That's good.  Need to keep a little 60's in my soul.  Better sign off.  If the shut-in policy is long term, please don't hold it against me if I sign in and ramble.

Me again,

My habit is to go over my emails after each day.  Good practice when doing a lot like I was today.  I wanted to clarify that I meant it was great that you were able to schedule the dinner (I hope to attend one) before they shut everything down.  Don't want anyone to take it the wrong way.  I can can be a little filppant sometimes. Everyone who reads this will probably say, what?  Couldn't move on without clarification  I obviously don't do well in confinement,

I am sure we can all empathize with you Clint, quarantine sucks. It sort of reminds me of the submarine patrols (months at a time under water) that I had the opportunity participate in. I know they really didn’t have a positive affect on my psyche.

The isolation and/or close proximity of of others in a confined space tends to screw up your mind. I have talked to several of my neighbors that have been telecommuting for work that last few weeks and they all seem to be having continual squabbles with there spouses - they were kind of surprised to find that being stuck at home day after day with their significant other brought out the worst in their relationships.

When I was in the navy and would go on patrol I always thought it was interesting to see how personal relationships changed among my shipmates. Guys that were good friends that the beginning of a patrol would often be at each others throats by the end of the patrol - usually over very insignificant issues.

At the beginning of the first few patrols that I was on I tried to keep a diary. The first week or so I would make entries in my little book that were several pages long documenting the daily routines and activities. As time wore on and the routines became more and more monotonous my daily entries became shorter and shorter, then less and less frequent until about half way through patrol I would stop altogether. When I look back at the patrols I went on, I could only remember the first few weeks at sea, after that it all seemed to fade into a blur. I got use to odd behavior of many of my shipmates - I knew that they were all sort of losing their minds just like I was.

I remember that on one patrol (the second one I made, I think) I went though a period where I couldn’t sleep. I went for a week without sleeping. By about the forth or fifth day I was real basket case. I was hallucinating, talking to people who weren’t there and convinced that there were people or other “beings” trying to get me. My odd behavior went unnoticed by my shipmates. I finally went to the corpsman to get something to make me go to sleep, I had to go back a second time because the first time I ‘m sure he had just given me a placebo. The whole time I was still standing my watches and performing maintenance on critical ships equipment. It gave me real confidence about our nations nuclear deterrents. Those experiences didn’t kill me, so I guess they made me stronger (or something).

So, Clint I can understand your comment about not doing well in confinement ;-)

I don’t think any of us do, but we will make it though.

An old Chinese curse (not related to Corona!) says, "May yu live in interesting times." (Not from the T-Bone cookies.) That old proverb implies that while times might, indeed, be interesting they will very likely be challenging as well. All we needed was an earthquake. Oh yeah.

Opps. Glad you survived that Clint, I'm sure it was worse in SLC. I just thought my wife was rolling over in bed.

Marvin, are you sure you talked to the Doctor? Maybe some aliens visited you on ship. It sounds like one experience we didn't get to share.

Hope people don't think I'm whinning when others are going without pay checks.  You get online and start bouncing around talking with folks.  Marv, I actually remember you describing what it's like to be on a submarine for months when you were on leave back in the day.  You were always so deadpan about it.  Said somthing like the movies ran out pretty fast.  I thought then, and I still do, that it wasn't easy service.  Did get you out of Springville though.  Haha!  I'm kidding.  Tell Coke hello for me.  When I visit my mother, for some reason I usually drive once through Brookside.  I think it's because Brookside is a unique tight subdivision that was filled with people of my youth.  I know, it's a little weird.   Funny when an earthquake provides a welcome relief.  People laughing about where they were and what they were doing.  No reported injuries.  A diversion from the new norm.  Just so you know I'm doing something, University Communications wanted to know if commencement has ever been cancelled.  It hasn't.  Shortened during WWI and WWII but not cancelled.  Take care everyone and be safe.

devil  Hello 69er's!!!  I don't know if any of the rest of you are going crazy as i am! I know for sure i don't want to retire. I'm only doing a few people a day and it is driving me crazy. All I want to do is eat!!!!!!  I've tried to sew masks and I suck at sewing. I've cooked until I hate it. And cleaning is boring! I guess you all know I'm not domestic goddess!!! At least I've walked with my friends a few times and I love them, but i hate exercise. I'm even tired of TV!!! Who knew that would be boring. And yes Marvin, Randy is lucky to be alive!! To much togetherness is crazy!!! Now you all know I'm normal. How bout the rest of you?????  Any suggestions on any good series to watch... I really am fine it is just so weird!!!  Now for all the positive. Haven't we all figured out that we love hugs!! A simple smile or a wave from someone means a lot. Our grandkids are everything. Who thought that we would even miss going to the grocery store... And Clint brookside was the greatest place in Springville. So many of our cassmates and friends lived there. Just think of those summer nights running from house to house!!!

And you thought you rambled!!! Looking forward to seeing everyone again!! Next time I hope more of you come to our dinner or whatever we do!! How bout a weenie roast up the canyon or in someone's backyard??? Hint, Hint!!!!!!! Love you guys!!!!!

Hi everyone -

I'm with you Shawna, bouncing off the walls over here.  It's ground hog day everyday, except for the occasional earthquake.  I guess my hair is going to be white from this point on.....don't know that there is any point in coloring it again, its so grown out, may as well suck it up and let it go.

I was just thinking the other night about growing up in Springville and how much fun it was.....seems like we had no worries what-so-ever.  I was really missing the simplicity of it all and worried about what our kids and grandkids are facing.  If nothing else, this mess has forced us all to slow down!

Shawna mentioned hugs - yes, when this mess is over, I'm going to hug everyone, maybe even some strangers!  I've been living alone now for 7 months, that has it's perks, but also drives you nuts!  I talk to my dogs and I've even found myself answering for them (now that's messed up).  I stopped cooking, it's ridiculous to make that kind of a mess for one person....cold cereal, toast and potatoe chips will fill the void.  I listen to books, but even that is boring. I live for funny memes and I find myself watching the clock waiting for my 5 o'clock marqarita....some days its 4 o'clock.  :)

A weenie roast up the canyon sounds so great!  We could stay 6 feet apart!!  I'm in whenever it gets a little warmer!  I hope you and your families are safe and healthy, luckily mine are.  We video chat everyday, but it's not the same - looking forward to when we can all get together again.

Stay positive and keep in touch!  This is a good place to share our frustrations - we're strong, '69 strong and we'll get through all this!  Just not sure what the world is going to look like on the other side of this -

Peace!

Hello,

Administrative zoom meetings.  Thank you Shauna and Kate for a reprieve.  I'm an hour late Kate (a poet) for the margaritas.  Better have one.  You knew Shauna had to get loose.  Not one to sit around.  Salons the social center.  I'm sure your clients are waiting for the day when they can come back.  I'm with you, options are drying out.  I actually drove up Hobble Creek Canyon the other day.  Afraid to visit my mother in-person.  She tells me she still walks 3 miles a day.  Not bad for mid-90's.  Tells me she walks by that cute girl Jan Carter's house every day.  I always get a kick out of that.  Jan is a cute girl.  We still seem young to her. That's good.  I need to attend the next lunch, weenie roast, etc.  Good to hear from you.  Be safe.  I've got to get moving. I've always thought that it was wise to present a moving target..

Cathy Parkin (Deveraux)

Well guys my turn to check in I guess, I moved from Mapleton a year ago, I miss it but I'm a lot closer to my kids and grandkids, it's a lot easier to get to there activities.  It's a new adventure but one with a lot of perks.  I love reading all your posts.  My life is easier now I've retired from my State job, I never thought retirement could feel so good.  Sorry your struggling with cutting back with work Shauna maybe, you just have to give it a little more time. Then again maybe you should just come visit me.  Did I mention I moved right into the earthquake territory, actually that wkas quite the experience, kinda like riding the roller coaster at Lagoon without even paying for a ticket.

I moved into a 55 and over retirement cottages in South Jordan and I love it, There is always something going on well there was before the Covid virus hit but that to shall pass as the saying goes.  I just want to say I loved and still do take pride in being a RED DEVIL, and I especially loved and still do our class of 69. I love hearing about our class members and what's going on in all of your lives.  Hope to join in on at least one of your future activities. Take care my friends always keep smiling and remember don't take life so seriously, you'll have more fun and Hopefully live longer.

Hi 69er friends! So good to hear from you and know you are doing well in these crazy times! Cathy you need to come to our next get together and tell your stories of growing up with Ernie! Clint your Mom is amazing! She still moves like she is in her twentys! She told me she tried to get Clint to cut his hair because he looks like a crazy old Hippie! He just laughed and said I am a crazy old Hippie! She is a cute little spit fire and is a good example of why we need to keep moving and stay healthy! Can't wait to see all of you again! Stay healthy no Covid!

My mother keeps me honest.  Not a big social media person.  I leave work and shut the computer down.  The usual texting and a little Skyping.  Might be the disconcerting experience of watching 30,000 students walking around glued to phones with ear buds etc.  I know I'm old school, but it's worrisome to me.  I'm spending more time online now.  So you'll have to put up with me.  Zoom is an interesting new (guess not new in corporate world) facility.  I think it has staying power in the community at large.

The class of 69 would relate to this conversation.  I told a friend of mine that I spent a half day down in my home town just driving around.  She said  "you know you never moved away."  You live 50 miles from your hometown.  You are Utah through and through.  That's true.  I explained the dramatic changes during the last three decades from the 60's, 70's, and even 80's.  I don't think she got it.  It's difficult for me to comprehend myself.  I readily embrace that I'm small town Utah.  Am I required to be a Republican though?  Back in our day a lot of union type Democrates. Kidding around.  Politics a stupid subject when just saying howdy. and be safe.

This morning I put on my rain gear and went for a walk in the rain. It was glorious. It is nice to see spring making a comeback after such a long dark winter.

Pictures of some of the flowers I saw on my walk.

Oh Marvin, I'm so with you on the Spring thing!  It's so nice to have some warm weather and sunshine....kind of helps with all the madness in the world.

Clint, I'm glad your mom keeps you honest - I really miss my mom, it's like life is just a blink!  We cleaned out mom and dads house and sold it about a year ago, but my sister recently found moms wedding dress in her cedar chest.  I held up that dress and remembered that I wore it in our graduation assembly.....mom and dad graduated in 1949, so 1969 was their homecoming and the year they got married, so I gues we incorporated that random fact in the assembly and I wore her dress.  It was just a great remembrance as I held it up.  I have no idea how I ever fit in that dress - ha!  It is so tiny, - oh boy, those were the days!!

I was also talking with my sister Susan - her first husband was Jimmy May who played in the band Holden Caufield at the memorial hall - I had such a mad crush on him and tried to never miss a night at the memorial hall when his group was playing.....Mom made me take Susan to a party with me one night and I knew Jimmy May was going to be there - and yes folks, sound the trumpets, Susan won the night, got the date and I was basic chopped liver - I needed lots of therapy after that major blow, especially to my fragile ego. As it turned out, it wasn't a good marragie for her - but hey, it could have been for me!

Oh the memoral dances So much innocent fun and the best music ever!  We sould organize a memoral hall dance with some great bands and put the girls on one side and the boys on the other and jlust wiat for the magic - it wil come.

If anyone is out there, can you tell me how to post pictures from an Iphone??? Laugh if you want but I'm an idiot when it comes to computers.  At least I'm trying, Right!!!!

Shauna-

Don't feel bad about having difficulty with your iPhone, after all they don't come with instructions and very little of their function is intuitive (besides, all this computer stuff is still alien technology to our generation). Coke has an iPhone and I have an Samsung and I think mine is way easier to use. I have become sort of an IT Specialist in our house because I am always helping her figure out how to use her iPhone and her iMac.

Here is a webpage that gives instructions for copying a picture from an iPhone to a third party application:

https://iphone-tricks.com/tutorial/4803-how-to-duplicate-photos-copy-photos-on-iphone

I hope this helps.

By the way, you never did send me the picture of your clock ;-)

Totally agree with Marvin!   A Samsung Galaxy (e.g. S20, etc.) is the only way to go.
